Mexico City Newlywed Session – Mónica & Erick

Another Mexico City wedding feature this week: Erick & Mónica’s newlywed session! A week after their eventful wedding day in Lindavista, we met up for a Newlywed portrait session with just the two of them. I was so excited to finally have these two to myself… and loved the casual-chic elopement vibe of this session! It’s no secret that Erick is an expert at finding hidden gem locations in Mexico City, so I knew my creative juices would be flowing. We ended up choosing some parts of the city that were familiar to me, which was super fun!

Mexico City Wedding Photos in Chimalistac

We met that morning in Chimalistac, one of Mexico City’s most quaint and picturesque neighborhoods. I remember visiting this part of the city earlier this year, and some of my favorite portfolio images were taken here! We wandered the cobblestone streets shaded by trees and surrounded by colonial architecture. The quiet charm of this area was the perfect backdrop, and of course I had to play with Mónica’s veil! She also brought along her original bouquet – un toque especial.

San Ángel y El Museo Casa Estudio de Frida

Our next stop was San Ángel, which is basically my dream neighborhood. With its colorful buildings, Spanish and Arabic architecture, and centuries of history, it offers endless inspiration for any photographer. One highlight was stopping in front of the Baroque-style iglesia Museo de El Carmen, another familiar location! Though we did not enter the museum this time (meaning: we did not see the mummies), Mónica and Erick danced and played outside the church, creating some fun and joyful wedding portraits.

We wrapped our session at Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo. This is truly one of my favorite buildings in Mexico City – and it made for a lovely backdrop for photos! The bold lines and striking blue and red walls of the building brought a modern energy to the session. Remember when I mentioned that San Ángel was my dream neighborhood? This casa is truly my dream home! Erick and Mónica were ALL smiles, and there couldn’t have been a better finale to their portrait adventure.

Why a Newlywed Portrait Session?

Wedding days are highly anticipated, full of emotion, and often include unexpected events. If the timeline of your wedding day does not allow for portraits, I highly recommend scheduling a Newlywed portrait session with your photographer! This can be the day after your wedding, a week after, or whenever is convenient for you. Feel free to dress up in your wedding attire again, or change up your look a little, like Mónica and Erick.
