About

Documentary wedding photographer Emma of Emma Mullins Photography in Chicago, Illinois

Hellooo, world!

I’m Emma: beer nerd, cat-whisperer, and documentary wedding photographer. I’ve been helping couples relive their wedding memories since 2014.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I currently reside in Chicago with my designer-turned-handyman spouse and our two spunky felines. When I’m not photographing couples in love, I’m either hanging with these three or traveling some place new!

A Few of My Favorite Things:
  • Black coffee
  • Road trips
  • 90’s R&B
  • Belgian beer
  • My little fam (Jeremy, Rex and Miike)
  • Watching the sun rise
  • The Green Bay Packers
  • Johnny + Moira + David + Alexis
  • Halloween (the holiday – not the movie. Okay, the movie’s pretty good too.)
My Approach

My favorite thing about working with couples is learning THEIR story. It’s always exciting to learn how two people met… and then decided to spend the rest of their lives together! We’ll get to know each other throughout the process, and it doesn’t stop on wedding day. I want to show up with hugs and handshakes – not as just another vendor.

If you’re looking for stiff, unnatural posing, I’m not your girl. Expect a mix of candid moments and contemporary portraiture while still being able to enjoy time with your guests. My approach allows couples to feel totally comfortable in front of the camera (it’s the number one thing mentioned in my Reviews!).

Maybe you’re planning the wedding of your dreams, or maybe you cringe at the thought of being center of attention. Either way, your wedding day represents YOU and the awesome, ridiculous, beautiful, unique, sometimes-messy-but-oh-so-worth-it love you share together. Your photos should be no exception.

Emma Mullins Photography embraces diversity and inclusivity. We are LGBTQ+ friendly and happy to serve humans of every background, gender and identity.

Chicago Lakeview Neighborhood Engagement – Libby & Avi

Libby and Avi’s Lakeview neighborhood engagement session last month was such a blast! These two got engaged on Leap Day at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, and then moved in together shortly afterward. Of course, that also means Chicago’s Stay at Home Order was implemented around the same time. Consequently, Libby and Avi began to spend a lot of time in their home together… and wanted that reflected in their photos!

We started on their front porch for a few photos, reminiscent of the socially-distant sessions that gained popularity during quarantine. The three of us then took a stroll through Southport Corridor, stopping at some of their favorite local spots! Southport Lanes and Tuco and Blondie were a must. I specifically loved the latter – if there’s a colorful mural, you can bet I’ll want to stop for a few photos. In fact, this place is especially meaningful to Libby and Avi: it’s where they first got to celebrate their engagement with friends and family. Another favorite feature of their neighborhood is the Southport brown line stop. I am all about unique-to-Chicago photo locations, and the CTA is never a bad choice!

After a quick outfit change, we headed to Lincoln Park for sunset and skyline views. Seriously, this place is one of my favorite photo locations in all of Chicago! You’ve got the city, nature, and lakefront all within walking distance. Though we didn’t get to visit the conservatory this time, I’m crossing my fingers for wedding day 🙂

Libby and Avi: This was such a fun session! I had a blast with you both and can not wait for your wedding day next year!
