Alison & Kevin’s Romantic Downtown Spring Engagement Session

Alison and Kevin’s downtown spring engagement session was romantic, dreamy, and most of all: FUN!! These two were a breeze to have in front of my camera, and we got to visit some favorite Chicago photo locations. Spring came early this year (well, early for Chicago, that is!)… and I can not get enough of […]

Intimate Cafe Brauer Wedding in Lincoln Park – Zoe & Jake

On a lovely spring morning in March, I was honored to attend Jake and Zoe’s intimate Cafe Brauer wedding. In fact, along with my Associate-in-Training (hi Dana!), we were the only official guests! Zoe and Jake had been planning a grand celebration in New Orleans for their wedding day. When 2020 happened, they were certain […]

Seven Reasons to Have a First Look on your Wedding Day

What exactly is a “First Look?” These days, any wedding photographer will tell you it’s when a couple intentionally sees each other on their wedding day before the ceremony. Some of you may be gasping at the thought of this (it’s against tradition!!) – others might consider the trend old news. But truthfully, including a […]

Epic Surprise Proposal in Lincoln Park – Kevin & Brandon

It’s no secret that surprise proposals are one of my FAVORITE things to capture. I just love the excitement of it all – the planning, the anticipation, and of course the moment of surprise! This surprise proposal, however, was a little different: I got to be a part of the cover story. Kevin and Brandon […]

James & Maya’s Winter Minimony Adventure in a Chicago Blizzard

Today’s post is dedicated to Maya and James! These two have been an absolute joy to get to know and work with over the past year. Remember their awesome pizza-and-milkshake themed Engagement Session?? After that, I could not wait for their wedding day! But of course, like many couples, the dream wedding they had planned […]

Romantic Lincoln Park Zoo Engagement in the Rain – Allison & Jason

This week’s “retro” post is dedicated to Allison and Jason! These two were scheduled to tie the knot in Evanston last fall, inevitably deciding to postpone the festivities. I’m so happy we had a chance to meet in person before things changed! Allison and Jason currently live in Florida, and we made sure to schedule […]

Brittany & Jon’s Field Museum Engagement Featuring Sue the T-Rex

Happy Friday, friends! It’s been a busy week, filled with good things: meeting awesome new couples, getting published in Junebug Weddings, and some exciting news in the works. But don’t worry! Megan & Taylor’s Unseasonably Snowy Neighborhood Engagement Session

What a winter we’ve had, Chicago! I’ve been a bit quiet on the Blog lately, taking time to focus on my health and prepare for the upcoming season. Usually, this is the time of year when I review past weddings and sessions to update my portfolio. And – surprise!! There are still a few favorite […]

Surprise Chicago Ice Skating Proposal – Amy & Rob

It’s Valentine’s Day Weekend… which means that Engagement Season is coming to an end! And by “Engagement Season,” I mean the period between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day when nearly 40% of couples get engaged. This is a time when wedding vendors tend to stay busy during the “offseason” – and photographers get to tag along […]

BEST OF 2020: This Year in Review!

Happy NEW YEAR’S EVE, friends!!! Wow, what a year it’s been. Don’t worry, I won’t go on about the challenges of 2020 and how that completely transformed the wedding world. About

Chicago wedding photographer Emma Mullins Photography in her studio with film camera

Hellooo, world!

I’m Emma (She/Her): Beer nerd, cat-whisperer, Chicago wedding photographer shooting digital and film. A true Millennial, I still own a VHS box set of Titanic and remember when people used to ask “Tupac or Biggie?” (gotta go Pac). I’ve been helping couples relive their wedding memories since 2014, and wouldn’t have it any other way. Over the years I have found this job to be unexpectedly rewarding; the role we ultimately play in a couple’s family history is not something I take for granted.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I currently reside in Chicago with my designer-turned-handyman partner and our two spunky felines. When I’m not photographing couples in love, I’m either hanging with these three, managing our West Town studio space, or traveling someplace new!

A Few of My Favorite Things:
  • Black coffee
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Road trips
  • Watching the sun rise
  • Pretending I sound like Mariah Carey
  • Moira Rose’s wig collection
  • Belgian beer
  • The Green Bay Packers
  • My little fam: Jeremy, Vince and Miike (Mee-kay)
  • Halloween! My favorite costume of all time was Dana Scully from The X-Files (Jeremy was the cutest Mulder).
About You

You want stunning, true-to-life wedding photos that look and feel like YOU. You don’t want to feel stiff or look too “posed.” Naturally, you love the look of film and value the art of photography. Future You wants to look back on photos from your wedding day and remember what it felt like to actually be there. And most importantly, you want to ENJOY your wedding day while we capture the good stuff.

Whether you thrive in the spotlight or cringe at the thought of being photographed, we’ll be there to capture your memories. And let’s be honest: your wedding day is going to be AWESOME. No matter what goes according to plan or how many things surprise you, at the end of the day you’ll be married to Your Person. And, spoiler alert: that’s what this is all about!

My Approach

My relaxed, documentary approach allows couples to feel totally comfortable in front of the camera (it’s the number one thing mentioned in my Reviews!). Expect a mix of candid moments and contemporary portraiture, with the occasional embarrassing (aka HILARIOUS) dance floor photo. I will be your hype girl during portrait time (seriously!) – and just might convince you stop in the middle of downtown traffic for an epic portrait on film. We’ll get to know each other throughout the process, and it doesn’t stop on wedding day! I want to show up with hugs and handshakes – not as just another vendor.
